Patagonia & Iguazu Photography Tour: Glaciers, Spires, Full Moon Falls

Overview

This curated route distills three icons of South America into a single, light-driven itinerary. We begin beside the immense curtain of Iguaçu Falls, where a carefully timed full moon session transforms the cascades into silver ribbons. A flight south takes us to the Patagonian steppe and the face of Perito Moreno Glacier, alive with the crack and splash of calving ice. Crossing into Chile, we enter Torres del Paine to chase first light on the Cuernos, reflections in still lakes, and the granite spires of the Paine massif. The journey is built around dawn starts, late finishes, and the quiet patience of true landscape photography.

Why I created this expedition

We arrive at the edge of the jungle where the Iguazú River shatters into countless cascades, each one a study in motion and vapour. The lower and upper circuits lace through the spray, giving us first a face-to-face encounter with the falling water and then a commanding perspective from above. On that first full evening, the park closes and we slip back in. With the full moon high, the cataracts become pale streaks; the workshop focuses on long exposures and the delicate balance of ambient light.

The frame shifts. A flight south and the green jungle gives way to pale, wind-scoured steppe. At Perito Moreno Glacier we move between the boardwalks, composing the crumbling face, then board a small boat to photograph the ice from water level, its crevices glowing turquoise as a block calves and sends up a plume of white.

Across the border, Torres del Paine gathers its signature peaks. Pre-dawn at Lago Pehoe, the Cuernos catch first light and double in the lake. We linger, swapping between wide and long lenses. Later, we walk to Salto Grande and frame the dead trees that stand sentinel in front of the Paine massif. At day’s end, the wind drops, the water stills, and the granite needles turn gold. The camera becomes an extension of a quiet way of seeing—nothing forced, only found.

Photographic opportunities

The itinerary is built around precise light. At Iguaçu, the upper and lower circuits grant elevated panoramas and low-angle drama, while the exclusive full moon session opens possibilities for ethereal long exposures without competing with other visitors. Perito Moreno delivers raw glacial power: compression studies of calving ice, abstract close-ups of crevasses from the boat, and the contrast of blue ice against dark Andean rock. In Torres del Paine, we chase dawn light at Lago Pehoe, where the Cuernos reflect perfectly when the wind allows. A dedicated long-lens session reveals the mountain textures—the striations of the granite, the dusting of snow on the Fortaleza—with recommended focal lengths of 100–400mm. The Salto Grande waterfall and the dead trees along its outflow offer foreground interest with the massif towering behind. From sunrise to sunset, the wild weather of Patagonia demands adaptability and rewards the patient with fleeting, unrepeatable frames.

Who this journey is for

This itinerary will appeal to landscape photographers who want to experience three distinct natural environments without rigorous trekking. Days begin early and revolve around light, with easy walks on maintained circuits and boardwalks. The border crossings and internal flights require patience with logistics, but the physical demands are mild. The trip suits anyone comfortable with pre-dawn starts and occasional long drives across Patagonia's steppe. It is designed for image-makers who value unhurried time at each location, with an emphasis on refining composition and technique rather than endurance. If you prefer spontaneous hand-held shooting to tripod discipline, the slow pace may feel deliberate—but for those who love watching first light touch a granite spire, no other route condenses so much into ten days.

A few kind words

Colombia Photography Tour 2026

Top notch photographic experience for enthusiasts of nature, culture, and portraits. Tristan is well connected to the area and the local communities with a specialty in indigenous tribes and less-visited areas. Additionally, he is an excellent teacher and will provide incredibly helpful instruction on exposure, lighting, and composition. Our tour was incredibly well organized and ran on time, with full days of photography. I fully recommend Remote Expeditions for your photographic travels!

You are in good hands with Tristan!

Tristan does an amazing job at putting together a culturally rich experience. He also does a great job at adapting to his clients needs and interests. He responds well to feedback. He is both professional and personable. I feel as though I had the opportunity not only to photograph many different elements of Colombia, but that I truly experienced the country and its culture. Our adventure took us from birding in the mountains outside of Cali, to visiting remote indigenous tribes, to visiting active fishing villages, to learning about local and historical musicians and customs, to beautiful settings in the mountains and along the seashore.

I give Tristan the highest recommendation as a guide for Colombia.
