Morning welcome at El Calafate airport, then a four-hour transfer across the Patagonian steppe to El Chaltén, the region's trekking hub. After checking in and lunch, there's time to explore the village and pick up supplies for the days ahead. A late-afternoon acclimatisation hike to Mirador del Condor stretches the legs and offers a first sweeping view over the valley. We close the day with a group dinner in town.

A morning departure from El Chaltén puts us on the path to Laguna Capri, a two-to-three-hour walk. By midday we’ve set camp beside the lagoon and share a picnic. In the afternoon a relaxed ramble leads to a classic Fitz Roy overlook, then on to Cascada Escondida, where water threads dark rock, perfect for early long-exposure studies. We return to camp as evening settles in.

Headlamps light the short, pre-dawn walk back to Cascada Escondida, where we watch first light transform the waterfall and surrounding cliffs. After the session and breakfast, we strike camp and hike an easy two and a half hours deeper into the park to the Poincenot campsite, pausing often to photograph the unfolding landscape. Tents go up, then we take a gentle wander around the camp’s perimeter.

Our earliest start yet: a headlamp climb to Laguna de los Tres, a demanding rocky ascent gaining 300 metres in one and a half to two and a half hours. At the top, Fitz Roy’s spires flame in sunrise light beside the glacial lake. For those opting out, an alternative hike to a quieter lagoon offers its own rewards. We breakfast at altitude, descend by mid-morning, rest by the river, and explore alternative viewpoints in the afternoon before sunset and a camp dinner.

A short pre-dawn walk to the plains near Poincenot brings a hushed sunrise over the massif. After packing up and breakfast, we set out on the trek’s longest section—about eleven kilometres and five and a half hours of walking to the Agostini campsite beneath Cerro Torre. A picnic en route breaks the journey. We arrive in the afternoon, set up camp, and stretch our legs with a relaxed late-day stroll.

Just fifteen minutes from camp, we reach the shore of Laguna Torre before dawn to watch icebergs drift under the towers. The guide notes it took three visits before these peaks revealed themselves clearly—a testament to the local weather’s personality. After a leisurely breakfast and a river picnic, an afternoon hike leads to Mirador Maestri for a broad glacier view. We photograph sunset as light rakes the iconic spires.

An optional sunrise from a different vantage near Laguna Torre, or the choice to sleep in. At nine we break camp and retrace our steps toward El Chaltén, reaching the village by early afternoon. The rest of the day is free: a shower, a walk through town, a meal at your own pace, and a proper night’s rest indoors before the next chapter.

An exceptionally early start—2:30 AM—puts us on the trail to one of the park’s most arresting overlooks. Three hours later we reach the viewpoint as dawn ignites the entire Fitz Roy range. The morning is devoted to a sustained photo session on the high ridge. We lunch on-site, then descend through a beautiful forest, arriving back in El Chaltén with the late afternoon to unwind.

A final pre-dawn outing from El Chaltén takes us to Mirador de las Vueltas, an accessible but deeply photogenic overlook where morning colour floods Los Glaciares National Park. We return to pack, and by late morning we’re driving four hours back to El Calafate. The afternoon settles into hotel comfort, dinner, and a chance to catch up on photo backups.

After breakfast we board a private vehicle for the drive across the steppe to Perito Moreno Glacier. At the site, a network of walkways offers constantly shifting perspectives on the glacier’s immense blue front. We linger where the ice is most active, listening for the sharp crack that signals a calving. Late afternoon brings a return to El Calafate and a free evening.

A morning departure carries us across the Patagonian pampa toward the Chilean frontier. The border stop takes roughly two hours; then we continue to Puerto Natales, arriving in the afternoon. After check-in we stroll the town to stretch our legs and shop for supplies for Torres del Paine—note that fresh food cannot be brought across the border.

We drive into Torres del Paine National Park, stopping frequently for photographs as the landscape opens up. By early afternoon we reach the Sodexo campground, whose outlook is one of the finest in the park. After setting up camp and a lakeside picnic, we walk to the Condor Viewpoint for sunset. The evening unfolds slowly at camp.

Sunrise catches us at Mirador Ferrier, a vantage that frames the lake and distant peaks with remarkable clarity. We return for breakfast, then take a relaxed morning walk along the shoreline. In the afternoon, a short hike leads to the Hosteria Pehoe viewpoint, where the waters of Lake Pehoe and the Paine massif compose a classic Patagonian tableau.

One more lakeside sunrise from a carefully chosen spot closes our time inside the park. By late morning we drive back to Puerto Natales, where a free afternoon and evening offer the chance to rest, repack, and reflect before departure.
